You are running a business…

As a Real Estate Professional representing a broker, remember that you are running a business. You’re not just a salesperson. From hiring and firing assistants to managing 1099’s and potential payroll issues, you are a business owner. Whether you have the latest and greatest technology or you hire IT professionals to handle it for you, you are running a business.

If you approach your real estate career as a business owner, an obvious pre-requisite to success in this industry, then obviously you know the basic business 101 principles. If you don’t know these principles, you are headed down the wrong path. Running a business is difficult. You will need to enlist the help of others to succeed. There is no way around this. You cannot be the Entrepreneur, the Technician, and the Manager all at the same time, and your head only holds one hat.

Specialize in something and avoid the temptation to do everything on your own. The most common problem I see as a technology professional is the amount of time that real estate professionals waste attempting to implement their chosen technologies.

If you are not a techno dweeb, do not attempt to become one. If you know nothing about computers, learn the basics. Learn what you need to function, but don’t sweat the setup. Your systems can be configured by someone else and it will be well worth it to you. Start prospecting so you can afford to pay those who know how to do what you don’t.

MyComputerWorks is a fantastic solution for a real estate professional who has no time for computer problems. Kurtis Bieber will be happy to set you up with an account, which costs you less than $1.00/day to maintain. Whenever you have a problem, they will login to your computer remotely and walk you through a quick solution…for just about anything.
