How to Throw a LOST TV Show Theme Party

by Jon Griffith on March 14, 2009

SPOILER ALERT! LOST is a very addictive television series.  As a result, a cult following has emerged over the course of the past 5 seasons.  If you have been recently bitten by the LOST bug, but you’re not yet through Season 3, it is likely that the information here will be more than you’re ready to know.  This is your fair warning.

Prior to the season 4 premier of LOST on ABC, Carson and I began planning a themed LOST party that would include a prop contest.  As usual, our creative group of friends pulled out all the stops.  Since it was such a huge success, and we had such a great time researching, creating, and hosting the party, Carson decided to publish a “how to” guide by sharing our experience with the world.

Feel free to adapt any of these ideas for LOST or any other television series or themed party that you may throw.

How to Throw a LOST TV Show Theme Party

The first thing any self-respecting LOST party needs is an array of “DHARMA” product labels, most notably for the beer.  We located the labels {[download id="1"]}, and replaced the manufacturer’s labels, giving us an authentic DHARMA brew.

Next, if you’re really serious about surprising your guests, your food for the evening should be LOST or ISLAND themed.  Ours was “Taco Night” with mango salsa & chips for the appetizer.  Dessert was a combination of tropical flavored sorbet from Costco, and hand crafted DHARMA fish biscuit cookies.

The décor for the evening was creative on a budget.  Had we more time and money, we would have been able to implement some serious Hollywood style decorations.  Unfortunately, we didn’t come up with the idea until it was too close to the premier, however, what we did do was good enough.

Around the television was an assortment of suitcases with clothing hanging out.  Coconuts, Mangoes, and Papayas were strewn throughout the house as well as various boxes with DHARMA logos, including a supply drop.  The inside of the guest bathroom door and the exit doors had QUARANTEEN signs attached them.  Using a digital photo frame, Carson uploaded various images from the Brainwashing scene.

For an obsessed group of LOST fans, open up the party to the idea of costumes or props from the show.  We held a prop contest and voted on the winner.  A few people showed up in costume as well.  The winner of the prop contest won a Beanie Baby Polar Bear.

Some of you may think we’re a bit obsessive and that we need to get lives.  Get over it.  We only live once.  Enjoy it.  When all was said and done, everyone had a really good time being total TV nerds for one night.

Below are some prop and decoration ideas that you can use for your next LOST Theme party.

The Bank is Taking My House!

Is this a true statement for you? If it is, there's hope for your
situation. When you go too long without paying your mortgage, your lender
exercises their right to call your loan due and payable in full, and they
issue a Notice of Trustee's sale. This notice is public record, and its
design is to let you know that in 91 days, your house will be put up for
auction, and the result will be a big fat "F" on your record. It's
frightening and can be very embarrassing, but you must know that you are not
alone, and I can successfully help you remedy the situation through what's
know as a Short Sale. If this person is you, I _want_ to help you. Don't
be afraid to ask as many questions as you wish.

I love looking at luxury properties, and every once in a while I poke around
the MLS looking at dream-homes. Today I looked up homes that exceed a list
price of $10 Million and I found 15 beautiful homes, three of which are
north-east of the Loop 101 in Scottsdale, and the remainder nestled smack
dab in the middle of Paradise Valley. If you're up for a few moments in
    dreamland, check them out here.

  • Sweet! Thanks for the comment Alysa. I hope your party goes off with a
    bang! Have a great day!

  • LostFanatic

Thanks so much for sharing your amazing ideas! Could you please tell me where you got the fish cookie cutter? It looks like you found the perfect shape; I just can't find them anywhere and I'm hoping to avoid a paper template. :)

  • The fish cookie cutter was actually created by hand from another cutter. There wasn't one on the market, so we had to bend another out of shape.

  • LoyallyLOST

Wow! SUCH great ideas! I'm planning a party for the series finale(boo hoo!)& it will only be my husband & I, but I want to do it up royally! You have some amazing ideas that I would never have thought of! Glad I found this site! I have a model of a TWA plane that I may try to find the Oceanic Airlines logo for. It has to be small & I am no good at shrinking or enlarging anything(keep it clean, folks!), so I may be at a loss here on that end. I may find a cheapy toy plane & paint it, at least the colors of the Oceanic, & cut it in parts & buy some sand(kitty litter?)& arrange this as my centerpiece. So many ideas! They seem to come flooding in as I read your ideas!
Have fun to all who party, dude!
